Swisher to the Yankees

Why do i feel like this is going to end bad for Swisher?
His .244 career batting average will not play well in NY. just a guess.

SportingNews.com Swisher to the New York Yankees

Nick Swisher became the first part of the New York Yankees' offseason makeover when he was acquired from the Chicago White Sox on Thursday in a five-player trade.
Choosing to address first base before concentrating on pitching when the free-agent market opens Friday, the Yankees obtained Swisher and right-hander Kaneoka Texeira for pitching prospect Jeff Marquez, infielder Wilson Betemit and minor league pitcher Jhonny Nunez.

Nats trade for Scott Olsen, Josh Willingham

Something has to give.
This gives the Washington Nationals an outfield of Lastings Milledge, Josh Willingham, Elijah Dukes, Wily Mo Pena and Austin Kearns, for only three starting spots. The Nat's also have two first basemen under contract, so I doubt that is the answer. No way Jim Bowden puts Willingham back behind the plate, right?

Bowden must have another trade in the works. he's gotta

Rangers exercise option on Blalock

Great player comparison here between Hank Blalock and Mike Jacobs.

The Baseball Analysts: Adding Perspective to the Jacobs Deal

No longer able to handle the duties of third base due to a damaged right shoulder, how valuable is Blalock as a DH or even as a first baseman? Are there any comps that could shed light on this question? By golly, there is at least one that I know of, and it's none other than Mike Jacobs, the 1B/DH acquired by the Kansas City Royals ten days ago.

Before we take a look at the stats, be aware that Blalock will cost the Rangers $6.2M next season while Jacobs is likely to earn no more than half of that amount, be it mutually agreed upon or awarded in arbitration during the offseason.

Conveniently, these two players are about as easy to compare as possible. Both hail from San Diego and were born three weeks apart. Both players throw right and bat left. And both are nothing more than first basemen and/or designated hitters.

A's acquire Matt Holliday

Wow .. Who saw this one coming?

Do the Oakland A's really think that they are going to compete with the Angels in 2009? They shipped off their entire pitching staff, and a year later, the team owner increases payroll, and says "I want to compete" .. what a fool.

SI.com Oakland A's acquired Holliday from the Colorado Rockies

The A's have acquired star outfielder Matt Holiday from the Colorado Rockies, SI.com has learned. It isn't known yet which players will be sent to Oakland in the surprise deal. Holliday will have a physical on Tuesday. Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd called Holliday on Monday to give him the news.

Giambi headed back to Oakland?

The LoHud Yankees Blog Cashman Wants a Real First Baseman

“I don’t buy into the idea of using a Johnny Damon or a Hideki Matsui or converting somebody else,” he said. “I’d like us to get a player who knows how to play that position.”

Allen Iverson to Detroit.

wow. who saw this coming.

Last week I said that Carmelo was going to be the 2009 MVP. It may have been some smack talk in a Yahoo league, but it counts all the same right?

SportingNews.com 'Melo the winner in Iverson-for-Billups trade

Both teams, however, have helped themselves. Adding Iverson doesn't make the Pistons better than the Celtics, but he gives Detroit the dynamic scorer it has been lacking. Billups and McDyess aren't going to turn the Nuggets into Western Conference contenders, but they will improve the team's defense and depth. They should go from a borderline eight seed to a solid eight seed.

But the biggest winner of the deal may be Carmelo Anthony. Iverson averaged 19 shots last season, Billups 11.2. Who do you think will get to make up most of that 7.8 shot difference? That's right, look for Anthony to go from 19.2 shots to closer to 25, and his scoring to increase from 25.7 to upwards of 30. He just became the favorite to win the league scoring title, and his team has improved.

Mike Maddux is joining the Rangers

Man everybody is bailing on the Brewers. Jack Z, probably all his crew, and now Mike Maddux? I'd say it's karma for firing the manager with a few weeks to go. The Brewers had their shot, and they blew it.

Now they can go back to being NL doormats for the next 15 years. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight! Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Hasenpfeffer Incorporated!!
