Evan Longoria

Longoria is AL Rookie of Year, Soto wins NL award

I think everyone knew this already, right? It was pretty much a given. If the vote had gone any other way, there would have been a revolution by all fourteen Tampa Bay Rays fans. Can't have that.

SportingNews.com Longoria is AL Rookie of Year, Soto wins NL award

Evan Longoria won the American League Rookie of the Year award Monday by unanimous vote, and Geovany Soto ran away with the NL honor.

Longoria activated, but won't be hitting

I hate it when this happens, when MLB teams aren't really concerned with the disabled list. Since rosters are expanded in September for the playoff push, and to give minor leaguers a "look", the disabled list can become pretty much useless for fantasy purposes, and it could really screw you over for a roster spot or two.

Evan Longoria Activated

Sorry I haven't stuck my ugly mug in here over the last couple of days. I have been a little under the weather, and even got some sad news within the family and that has been playing on my mind. So needless to say I haven't been around a ton. Again apologies.

Spring Is Here (With Predictions)

It's early afternoon, EST. As I write this sentence, we're less than four hours from Opening Night 2008 on ESPN (presented by Bank of America). The Washington Nationals will be showcasing their new home against the NL East Division Rival Atlanta Braves. After waiting nearly four entire days since the first official Major League game of 2008 in Japan, at 8:05 PM EST, a pitch that counts will be thrown on American soil. The pitch should be from left-handed, 30 year old Odalis Perez to Braves Second Baseman Kelly Johnson. I'm much more excited than I ought to be.

Optioned

Tis the season for roster cuts. 30 Major league teams need to get the crew down to 25 men, and Tony LaRussa is not too concerned with how it affects your fantasy roster. Sorry.

Longoria to start the season in AAA?

Well that would be some what of a shocker to many i suppose. Everybody expected Tampa's corner infield gig to be handed to Evan Longoria, based upon talent alone.

But this beat writer from the St. Petersburg Times make a very good argument as to why Longoria will probably start the season in AAA.

Rookie of the year

Yeah I realize it is probably a tad early, but that doesn't mean we can't take a look at the ponies in the race, right?

MLB.com reporter, Anthony Di Como has a solid look at the candidates for the 2008 rookie of the year, and as fantasy enthusiasts you really should familiarize yourself with these names right away, if you haven't already of course.

Rays Anatomy: Evan Longoria

Evan Longoria, the Tampa Bay Rays top prospect, was the third overall pick in the 2006 first year players draft and went on to win the MVP award for the Southern League last season, hitting close to .300 in two minor league stops

Longoria isn’t viewed as just a decent player anymore, he is now the front-runner for the 2008 American League Rookie of the Year. The major league squad already made the move, shifting Akinori Iwamura to second in anticipation of the phenom’s arrival.

General manager Andrew Friedman hasn’t come out and said it, but anything other than a complete meltdown in spring training should see Longoria penciled in as the opening day starter
