H2HWS: California South quarterfinals

Well it looks like it is going to be San Fransisco and San Fransisco advancing to the Inglewood quarter finals, as both the Pacificans and Giants cruised to easy victories.

The Pacificans attack was lead by Alex Rodriguez early and often, and somebody must have told Kid Wonderful that these Yankee games are meaningless, because he simply teed off. It was a great run by the Cal Blaze, but in the end Grady Sizemore and company simply came up short.

Hope you had a backup

Just a partial listing of the players that went down in week one. Its safe to say the Quarterback position just became a little thinner.

Hope you had a backup.

Chad Ocho Cinco

I have spent the last ten minutes just balling, simply 'cus I was laughing so damn hard.

I went in to set my fantasy football lineups before week one begins, and noticed I had Chad Ocho Cinco starting at wide receiver. I don't remember drafting an Ocho Cinco, I would have remembered that. I thought I heard a little something about this from the world wide leader, but I had no idea the fool actually did it, like official and everything.

NFL Week 1, last minute decisions.

A collection of scribes to help you set your week one roster. If there is somebody you like to read regularly, let me know, and we will be sure to link to them. I will probably pare this list down a bit as the season goes on, in an attempt to just keep the best sources of information. hope it helps.

Astros pitcher tests positive

50 games for an amphetamine means this was the third time he was busted, correct? This is the minor league program so I could be wrong. I Googled it but there is not a lot out there on the minor league program. I know Mike Cameron got caught twice, and he did 25 days his second time around, so 50 games should mean this is the third positive .. I believe.

I figure over the next two or three seasons, there will be a bunch of players getting handed these kind of suspensions as two and three time offenders. The players only get tested a couple of times each season, and the first failure is kept private. Of course once you pee positive, you get tested even more.

Predicting who will get busted is impossible, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a run of infielders. Call it a gut feeling.

162 games is a grind.

Now who’s better — Kobe or LeBron?

Cal me a homer, but I am going to go with Kobe everyday and Sunday.

Wait ..

especially on a Sunday. Kobe is clutch!

OCRegister.com What the blogger failed to mention, however, was Bryant’s performance in tough situations. How about the number of clutch plays down the stretch, 20-foot jumpers with a guy’s hand in his face? Or leaving two defenders in the dust for a game-winning layup? Does 81 points in a game ring a bell?

Sure, Bryant had help (Shaquille O’Neal) in winning three NBA titles. James has none, so far. But until he can sport one of those diamond-studded NBA championship rings, there really is no argument about who’s better.

Pat Riley to enter Basketball Hall of Fame

Props to you Pat. the hardest working, and classiest guy in the NBA.

He better have a Laker tie on during his induction ceremony, or i'll be very disappointed

well there goes that season.

So yeah, I am pretty much toast. I own Carlos Quentin for $12.00 over the next couple of seasons in my 16 team keeper league. Many of you know it as the Hot Stove. Heck many of you play in it. Captain does, so does the Yote, and Kyle too. I am probably forgetting somebody but that thats not the point.

I currently reside in second place, eight points out, with about a 50% chance of catching the leader. I need wins and K's, and I am coming on strong. traded for Rich Harden, Chad Billingsley and a few other arms.

H2HWS: Canada week 22

Hey look guys.

Canada!

Chatter: Mexicali

I haven't been near Mexicali or Yuma lately, but it is right out my back door, a simple three or four hour drive, and next February the 2009 Caribbean Series, the “Serie del Caribe”, will be held in Mexicali.

Why Mexicali I have no idea. I always remember the area having nothing but a bunch of farm land, lots of factories, being insanely hot, and pretty much a dump. Thankfully this is the winter leagues, eh?

If you ever bought something that said made in Mexico, chances are, it came from Mexicali.

The Serie del Caribe teams are typically from Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, and many Major League players are called on to fill the rosters, so the quality of play is high, with national pride often at stake.

Wikipedia - Mexicali Baseball

The Águilas de Mexicali is a Mexican baseball team playing for the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico in Mexicali, Baja California.

The team was founded in October 14, 1976. They have won the championship three times, 1985-1986, 1988-1989, 1998-1999. The team also won the 1986 Caribbean Series, played in Venezuela. Their brightest moment came when they won the 1986 Caribbean Series, only becoming the second Mexican team to take the title

Top team in California.

H2HWS: California Split Stats

This is a two part collection of Split Stats for both of the California leagues. It Includes the entire four year history of the California leagues. Everything here is based heavily upon Yahoo team names, so there may be guys that are listed twice, since it is multiple seasons. This is not a final of course, like everything around here, this is a work in progress. an idea, a dream? If you see that you have two different team names listed, let me know so I can correct it.

The database aspect of RDB.

I just wanted to get out an idea of what I would like to do with the database aspect of RDB. Ideally, I am looking to have the database built for players. Not MLB players, but you.

Chatter: Bloomers and Busts

Cleveland Indians catcher Kelly Shoppach is 28 years old already. I find that some what shocking. I guess he has always had his career path blocked by two of the best in the game, Victor Martinez, and Jason Varitek, so I don't know if it is fair to say that Kelly Shoppach is a late bloomer or not, but it is sure a beautiful flower isn't it.

I snagged Shoppach up in two leagues when Victor Martinez went down. I'd even say that Shppoach is the reason for my rebound in the H2HWS. On that same Inglewood team, I also own Victor Martinez, who is currently residing on the DL with zero homeruns on the year. Martinez is going to have to show me a little something, once healthy, just to get a ride at utility. No way I am moving Shoppach. Eric Wedge could bench Kelly Shoppach, and I am not moving him.

Friar news and notes: Hairston done for the season

I am starting to believe this team is truly jinxed. I can trace it all the way back to Tony Junior hitting that two RBI triple off of Hoffman at the end of last season. Even Trevor said it was an odd moment, that things just didn't feel right up there on the mound. And Hoffman pitched a good pitch to junior too.

Tony just reached out, and got wood on it thats all.

game of the day - 8/29

I thought about going with the Dodger - Diamondbacks game, but I didn't like the match-up.

Plus I need the win from Ollie

I am actually thinking about decorating the whole page in blue and orange.

Long over due

San Diego Padres batting stances, past and present.

Game of the Day, Thursday 8/28

And I bet you thought the game of the day was going to be Boston vs. New York.

Not on my watch!

Chatter free

No chatter today, as I think I will just spam the forums as I come across interesting stories instead.

Besides, I am working in the background, as you might notice. Tinkering with icons, and trying to learn arguments. Who would have thought, I would have trouble with arguments? This web programming slang is funny stuff. I already find myself typing in code sometimes, adding anchors and paragraph tags as i go. .. its kind of sad actually.

Besides I am kind of on an art kick right now. I'll offer up more horrible writing later.

So yeah, no chatter today.
