Hi, I'm Andrew and I'm a tradeaholic.

I have some sort of addiction - I have now made 6 trades in the H2HWS league. I can't seem to stop. Why can't I just sit back and enjoy my team for a few weeks. Please help me!

My latest trade involves giving up Alfonso Soriano for SP help (Lincecum & C.C. Sabathia). Certainly not a no brainer but I pull the trigger anyway.

My other trades include:

Date I Give I Get
13-May-08 Jarrod Saltalamacchia (Tex - C,1B) Geovany Soto (ChC - C)
Derrek Lee (ChC - 1B) Alfonso Soriano (ChC - CF)
  Shane Victorino (Phi - CF)

1-May-08 Edinson Vólquez (Cin - SP) Brad Lidge (Phi - RP)
    Taylor Buchholz (Col - SP,RP)

30-Apr-08 Carlos Beltrán (NYM - CF) Corey Hart (Mil - CF)
Scot Shields (LAA - RP) Brett Myers (Phi - SP,RP)

25-Apr-08 Alex Gordon (KC - 1B,3B) Jeff Francoeur (Atl - OF)
Jonathan Broxton (LAD - RP) Hank BlalockDL (Tex - 3B)

27-Mar-08 Heath Bell (SD - RP) Daisuke Matsuzaka (Bos - SP)
  Justin Speier (LAA - RP)

Does anyone else suffer from my condition? I need to start a support group.

HELP!

Yeah that is a ton of trades early. I don't think any of them are bad for you if you are addressing needs, except for maybe the Beltran trade.

Sometimes people just get caught up in trading just to trade, and the fact that you recognize this problem is the first step to recovery, i think. The next step is confronting all the people you screwed over in trades and apologizing ... :)

once you get past that step you are on your way to full recovery .. unless of course you relapse ..

good luck

I'm prone to making trades too in some respect, but I play it by ear. There are some teams I need to shake up more than others (World Series) and some I'll just keep on cruise control (California, West, other leagues). To my surprise, I'm actually pretty quiet in making trades, even though the activity of proposing trades and taking offers is fun.

In my opinion, that's the underlying reason why most people who have the quick trigger finger with trades is because it's fun. I know some owners do so out of desperation when they see their teams aren't making the inroads they would like to see in late May, but I think they get some high out of it in the process.

It's really rare to see an owner trade for a certain player, have him on board for not only two weeks, only to ship him back to the former owner. I think it's an OK deal, but you do deplete your offense as it stands in my opinion. That Beltran/Shields deal really wasn't the sharpest deal of the lot (told you about Myers going kerplunk as a trend) and I think had you held onto Volquez, you could've made a better return out of him now, but that's all in hindsight.

Yeah, I'd take the Beltran trade back if I could. I mistakenly thought Myers would be decent. Of course he has sucked. Hopefully today he can turn it around but I'm not holding too much hope. However, Hart has been at least as good as Beltran since that trade so it hasn't been a total disaster.

The Volquez trade was an interesting one. I really thought I had done a good job of selling high with Edinson. His walk rate was pointing me to a blow up. If I'd held onto him then he'd definately be more value now. However, I still doubt his ability to keep up this rate. Lidge & T. Buccholz aren't exactly bums this year either.

I like the Volquez trade, an excellent sell high. There was no way of knowing this kid would keep it up, and like you, i am waiting for him to come crashing back to earth.

I am using Buccholz also, he is a nice little find. course i got him off the wire, but that is a different story altogether.

Psychos 6, Thrashers 5. That's the score for who has the most trades in the league.

I traded my new pickup, Chris Perez for Brisbane's Johnny Cueto. Even though Perez appears to be a nice source of ratios, K's, and holds even if he doesn't presume the St. Louis closing job, I'm fine with the battery of Hoffman/Lyon/Devine/Broxton. I also think Cueto is a good buy low at this time and this article sums up my thoughts:

I also like rolling with a 6-man SP rotation on a week-to-week basis and Cueto fits my pitching strategy quite well.

I have just come to terms with Capt Chris. God knows why I do this as I always end up on the losing side.

 Anyways, here it is:

I give: C.C. Sabathia, Jeff Francoeur, Soloman Torres I get: Adam Dunn, BJ Ryan

I really think (barring injuries) I am set for some time now. I hope Dunn can provide enough power to help me while BJ solidifies my relievers. My real hope is that Gagne comes back somewhat decent and returns as closer making Torres expendable.

That trade, I do like. I actually think you win out by a bit, but if Francoeur continues heating up, well, I'd say the deal tilts Chris' way. Either way, it's a fair deal.

I'm going to have to think of two good trades to catch you.

I agree that this trade could go either way - which in itself makes it fair!

It's tough to lose guys of the calibre of Dunn & Ryan...but my starting pitching has been so bad all year that I had to do something to address it. Getting back an improving Francouer to replace Dunn, plus a temporary closer in Torres was the deciding factor in accepting the trade.

Time will tell to see if it will work out!

Nothing wrong with C.C. Sabathia and Jeff Francoeur.

Adam Dunn is a notoriously worse in the second half, and is not consistent enough for my likings. He will have a couple weeks were he will carry you, sure, but i would rather own frenchie ..

btw, the new player linker at fangraphs is real cool.

Two very closely timed trades have just been agreed upon in the H2HWS with some usual suspects involved.

Trade 1

L.A. Thrashers give Ervin Santana & Jonathon Broxton

Brisbane Bikkies give Evan Longoria & Hong-Chih Kuo

Presumably Thrashers wanted to use Longoria as an upgrade at 3rd over Gordon and preferred having a relief combo that involved 2 closers and 2 holds rather than 3 closers that was had since Broxton assumed the job.

Brisbane is likely to move Figgins into the vacated 3B slot and Howie Kendrick to 2B. Meanwhile gets some needed upgrades in pitching.

Trade 2

Psydney Psychos give Dice-K & Brandon Morrow

Felixstowe Fury give Cole Hamels

My personal philosophy on this trade was that I thought I was selling two players at their peak value. Dice-K's walks have always worried me this year and I do get concerned that his ERA will adjust itself to match the current WHIP. With Putz coming back and Seattle pretty much sucking then I though Morrow was expendable too. I was also eyeing off Duaner Sanchez on the FA list as a equally valuable replacement for Morrow. Once the trade was accepted I quickly snaffled him up as the primary set-up guy for the Mets and possible temp closer if Wagner's body falters.

Lastly, and certainly not leastly, I receive an ace that I can hopefully use to sneak into the playoffs. Irate Hamels an upgrade over Dice-K. I'm hoping he can combine with Lincecum, Felix, and Baker to form an impressive quartet of fantasy starting pitching.

On the other side of the ledger, the Fury receive two very nice pitchers to give depth to the pitching squad. If things work out, Morrow continues to close out games with style for the Mariners while Putz struggles/re-injures and Dice-K continues to rack up Ws & Ks while contributing a sub 3 ERA.

Anyways, after these trades presumably go through, the trade scoreboard will read:

Psychos - 9

LA Thrashers - 6

That gap of 3 trades just might be too hard for Ray to catch now!Laughing
