Reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy will go on the disabled list with swelling and a strained muscle in his pitching elbow. An MRI exam showed no structural damage, manager Bud Black said Monday night.
"You always fear the worst," Black said after the Padres lost 8-2 to the St. Louis Cardinals in a game Peavy had been scheduled to start, before being scratched on Sunday. "In this case it wasn't, so that's a good thing. The doctors were confident Jake will be fine. He's feeling better already."
Peavy said on Sunday that it was "not like a normal soreness. ... Your arm is sore all the time, but I do feel some of it in the elbow (and) that's always a cause for concern. We don't know how big, but it's always better to be safe than sorry."
Now .. .. the padres season is over.
