Spot * On Picks | 7.6 (Mon) 4th of July Hangover

Won't dilly dally with a ton of small talk chit chat today. Brad Penny brought it for me yesterday, but Chien-Ming Wang has seen his last Spot * On Pick, and Russ Ortiz likely has as well. Let's see who hasn't...

Brad Bergesen (R), BAL (50% Owned) @ Jarrod Washburn (L), SEA
Bergesen's been on my radar for some time now, as he's stepped his game up considerably since teammate Matt Wieters started calling his games. In the last month he's thrown 37.1 IP, 22 K, 3 Wins, a 0.75 WHIP and a 1.93 ERA -- not bad, huh? He gets Washburn who was lights out last time he faced the O's, and while Bergesen hasn't been as sharp on the Road this year as he has at Camden, he did hold them to just 2 Runs in 7 innings back on June 3rd, in Seattle. I think he can repeat that performance. Here's a fun little stat nugget: Seattle has scored 11 fewer Runs at Home than any other team this season (I won't get into how few games they've played in Seattle... just take that at face value... please).

Another guy to watch tomorrow is Mike Hampton, who has come back from his injury strong, and pitched well. If he does well against the Pirates tomorrow, I'll take a long look at his 2nd start of the week, where he gets the Natinals (not a typo) in Houston.

Until then...

Jason Marquis at 46% owned vs. Washington, for the win ...

honorable mention to Virgil Vazquez (1% owned) versus Houston.

Marquis is the sucker pick. He's the guy who lets up 7 ER every time you start him and goes 7 IP with 1 ER any time you don't. That said, he's a -200 favorite and should pick up another W even if he pitches like Jason Marquis (that's All-Star Jason Marquis, as I almost vomit).

I actually think Mike Hampton may be the guy tomorrow. The more and more I look the more I like him. Bergesen being an underdog actually worries me. The lines were put out late today and I wanted to get a pick in, but if I had to do it over again I might have gone Hammy.

are you giving up on this idea totally? We haven't heard anything in almost a month.
