Here's a little background on Borbon
He was a supplemental first round pick, 35th overall, in 2007. Baseball America ranked him as the 19th best prospect in the draft. He signed right at the deadline and played nine games in short season ball. He was given a major league contract at the insistence of his agent, Scott Boras, so his promotion does not require an accompanying 40-man roster move. The biggest knock on Borbon has always been a lack of patience at the plate. Since he is contact/speed oriented, he needs a high on-base to be effective, and his inability to draw walks has always inhibited that ability. Last season, in his first full professional season, he hit a combined .321 in High A and AA, but in 598 plate appearances, he drew just 30 walks (good for one walk per 19.9 PA or 5.0%). A left-handed hitter, he does hit righties better, but his OBP is fairly even. He stole 53 bases in 71 attempts last season and 19 in 23 this season, so he will be a factor in the running game.
