Five years, and 12 weeks later, somebody, somewhere, found Captain Chris' krypotonite.
Yes!
He was making a mockery of this great league. :)
Just a few other notes on some things ...
Consolation Brackets: You teams that do not make the playoffs, more specifically, you six teams ranked seven through twelve when the season ends, have one final shot at avoiding relegation to a lower league. Win the Consolation bracket.
That's right, if you don't make the playoffs, all you have to do is win that consolation bracket at the end of the season, and your team does not get relegated to a lower league for the next season. We came up with this idea to give you motivation after losing Brandon Webb for the season, to keep your team in top shape all year long, and ideally increase the league wide competition.
I hope it works. Heck I know it'll work.
Power Players: I haven't posted the Power Players this season for one reason only. They are meaningless if only half the leagues are reporting scores. I have sent out a few emails to leagues that haven't been reporting, but I don't get much feedback. I've tried to make it easy too. Just copy and paste the standings, ya know? Still, I am at about 50% reporting each week. I think it is more of a growth issue than anything. I am always looking for new commissioners, as some guys move on, and some guys get promoted up the ranks.
In seasons past, I knew I would have a few commissioners that ran a a couple of leagues for us, so with one quick email, I could get two leagues posted.
As we grow, this will always be a problem, but ideally a problem only within the lower ranking leagues. As we find more and more reliable commissioners for each league, it wont matter if a guy gets relegated one season, or promoted the next, as we should have three or four capable guys per league. Guys that have reported scores or ran leagues for us in the past.
And remember, you don't have to be a commissioner to report scores. If you are in a league and you don't see regular updates posted around here, take charge, and I'll give ya a hug!
How can you refuse that?
Dead Teams: Every year around this time, we start shutting down the dead teams. Hopefully the dead teams are just showing up in our "B" leagues, and eventually the "C" then "D" leagues, but as noted it is a growing process. I generally do not invite the dead teams back, and with our current relegation system in place, we can be assured that dead teams will always find their way to the bottom leagues.
Often you can tell a team is dead by say week six or seven. Some guys even give it a try for five or six weeks, lose a key player, and then quit. In knowing this, I try not to shut down dead teams too soon, as it'll give everybody a chance to play them at least once.
I hate doing it, but it is one thing I have zero patience for. None. If you are going to play in a league, any league, you play to win.
When we shut down a dead team, I always ask the league commissioner to set the lineup to the best available with the existing roster. They should go into the dead teams roster, and put in the highest ranked players per position. Ideally, MLB players that are seeing full time duty. If they can't do that, then the commissioner can pick up the highest ranked player for that derelict position. After the roster is set, they should lock it up, lock the old teams owner out from everything, including posting, and then contact me with the email address.
Head To Head Superbowl: As noted elsewhere around here, it's football time. For you ESPN faithful types, it is probably always football time, but for our purposes here, it only matters twelve weeks out the year.
And hey look at that, those 12 weeks are about 12 weeks away, so we might as well start collecting team names.
Questions?
Concerns?
Bad day, and ya just need to vent?
hollar back.
go padres!

had no idea of this H2HWS policy, thanks for letting us know - fortunately this has not been a problem in the USA Great Lakes A so far anyways
Really? We have done it every season ...
Absolutely, someone has found that kryptonite! (I think it's Norwich, but he's using it on the whole league, not just me!)
But there are still 10 weeks to go - I'm not beaten yet!
feeling better?
...when hopefully this losing streak will be over!
I suppose since Norwich play in green (& yellow) that it's apt to be described as kryptonite! But I reckon Ray knows all about having a big lead at this stage of the season, and we all know what happened to him.
There's a long way to go yet...

Do you have Excel? If so, I just might be able to come up with something to pull in the scores for you...just need a few example URLs.

what kind of URL's .. I'd love all the help i can get here..
All depends on what scores you're after...
These ping-pong questions could go on forever.
Use e-mail...you do have my address, right?

you have mail
Oh and Chris has pretty much sucked at FB this year.
It's such a relief!

...in the only league we're both in lately, JJ?
Just sayin'
Here are just a few questions I have received about locking up rosters, and I figured it would be best to share with everyone, just in case somebody else has the same questions or concerns.
Q: How weird does it look that I just locked up my week 13 opponent?
Well since you are ideally improving the team, i think it would give you instant creditability. Especially if you lose. Its happened to me before, in the exact same situation. I hope you don't lose though.
Q: Should I update the rosters of inactive teams on a weekly basis?
No. I don't want you to have to manage two teams. Only make changes from here on out if you see a player become inactive or get sent to the DL. It is not something you have to monitor on a regular basis.
Q: I kind of have a problem with updating the rosters of dead teams because it could put the other teams in the league at a disadvantage
Well theoretically, every team should have faced the dead team once. I realize it is not a perfect solution, but its a better solution than just letting the dead team fail to reach innings pitched minimums, or start guys that are not even on a major league roster.
Just a little more insight into my thinking with regards to dead teams, and commissioners tinkering.
The least amount of activity, the better. Every time we touch a roster, even if it is for the betterment of the league, it could raise questions or concerns by other team owners.
That is why it is key when replacing a player on a dead teams roster, that you always pick up the highest ranked "Active" player.
Q:The team I just locked has a 2B and a 3B either on the DL or NA, with no replacement to speak of. I don't have to pick up a replacement from the free agent pool do I?
Yes, pick up the highest ranked player from free agent pool for both second and third. if the player is NA, drop him, if he is on the DL, slide him their to open up the roster space.
Q: Also, on that same team, the active pitchers are four starters (Haren, Price, J.Johnson, Slowey), one closer (Rivera), and another closer on the DL (Lindstrom). He's only got Carmona on the bench. It looks like there is still a threat, albeit slim, of minimum innings not being met; especially if one of those starting pitchers goes on the DL
Since he only has one closer, i'd slot his four starters, and he should be fine. if he does not hit the innings, he does not hit the innings. There is no need for you t be managing two teams. If in a few weeks, you are cruising by his roster, and see JD Drew is on the DL (like that'll ever happen), then go ahead and adjust it then. Again, i don't want anybody to have to manage two teams. The more you stay away from the roster, the better.
