ESPN wins Premier League TV rights

Hope you guys across the pond have ESPN as all Premier League games that would have otherwise gone to Setanta, will be shown on ESPN, as soon as the upcoming 2009-10 season. I believe this only pertains to you guys abroad and not here in the US, as from my understanding, Setanta will continue to air Premier League games in the States. Great news since I'd shudder to think of ESPN sports personalities talking about the beautiful game without a bloody clue and it's bad enough that Fox Soccer Channel won the rights to air the Champions League... that is, if Max Bretos is calling the games. Great googly moogly. Oh, and if you'd be so kind, please tell me if Tommy Smyth is your color commentator over there on Opening Day.

ESPN Soccernet | ESPN snaps up Premier League TV packages

ESPN has won the rights to broadcast 46 live Premier League matches in the United Kingdom for the 2009-10 season, and has also been awarded a contract for the 2010-13 seasons.

The sports broadcaster, parent company of Soccernet, picked up both 23-match packages on offer in Monday's auction. ESPN's 46 live games will be split between Saturday evenings and Monday nights in the coming season. For the three seasons from 2010-11 to 2012-13 ESPN has the rights to a single package of 23 matches previously awarded to Setanta.

The Premier League ended its association with Setanta on Friday after it failed to meet a final deadline over a £30m payment which had been due this month. Setanta was also stripped of its Scottish Premier League contract on Monday.

those poor Brits. Any intelligent conversation about sports in general is now kaput. Sorry. Soon you will feel the brain cells being sucked from your skull. Great googly moogly

Yes, they have what's called ESPN America as well as ESPN Classic.

Best thing about Setanta going bust is that, for the time being at least, ESPN America is now on Sky's News package, which is only £1 extra, and it shows live baseball at a reasonable time!
