With my two picks for today, Mike Pelfrey and Joel Piñeiro, having yet to take the hill, it is still with great hesitation that I make further selections as we enter the weekend. My swagger has not yet been restored, so these may be the diamonds in the rough we're looking for, but you won't see me hopping all over them; not yet.
Barry Zito (L), SF (40% Owned) vs Chris Carpenter (R), STL
Fun fact: the St. Louis Cardinals bat just .227 against LHP, and hit for a MLB 27th Ranked OPS of .684 against southpaws. And while Barry Zito's career vs the Cards may make you wince in terror, I'm not scared. When Zito faced St. Louis last season he went 6 innings of 1 Run ball, and I expect the same tomorrow. Vegas has him as just a +135 underdog to Carpenter, who isn't letting anybody score, with an Over/Under of 7 Total Runs; that's right, seven. While the Cardinals may win this game, don't count out Zito or Los Gigantes, and expect nice ratios from Barry, along with three or four strikeouts and a Quality Start.
Other pitchers I'm looking at tomorrow, but not quite ready to take to battle include Matt Palmer (R), LAA (38% Owned) and Jeff Karstens (R), PIT (1% Owned). If you're in deeper leagues, take a look there.
Until tomorrow...
