Spot * On Picks | 5.27 (Wed) Memorial Hangover

Alright, so after an unsuccessful attempt at even picking a pitcher who was starting on a given day, I'm going to give this another try. It feels like it's been so long since I've tasted the sweet nectar of success, I've almost forgotten what it is. Today I attempt to find the remedy, the antidote. Who can alleviate this Spot * On Swine Flu I've seemingly contracted?

It should be noted that this pick terrifies me. It doesn't matter that the Mariners have the 28th Ranked OPS (.679) in all of Major League Baseball. Or the 25th Ranked on the Road (.679). Or the 30th against RHP (.670). That's how jaded I've become. However, with tomorrow's slate of games, Las Vegas has slapped -115 juice on Under 8 Total Runs in the M's vs A's matchup, with Ace Erik Bedard going for Seattle, and I'm biting, hook, line, and sinker. So I'm going with Trevor Cahill (R), OAK (21% Owned) and his 1.54 WHIP. He's given up just 2 Runs in 13 IP against Seattle in their two meetings earlier this season, and I see no reason why he shouldn't be able to handle them another time in his own Home ballpark. He's EVEN money against a legitimate staff Ace, so his squad's got about a 50/50 shot at grabbing a W, something he's yet to be able to earn against the M's despite pitching his tail off against them, but I think a Quality Start is to be expected, with solid ratios and a couple of strikeouts sprinkled in.

Date  Opponent  Score  Dec  IP  H  R  ER  HR  BB  K
 May 2  @ SEA  W 3-2  -  6 7 1 1 1 3 1
 Apr 12  SEA  L 0-1  L  7 2 1 1 0 3 3

Remember, I'm still on Step 1 of the 12 Step process back to my hubris filled, braggart typical self, so bear with me. I'll get there. Baby steps. Any suggestions on how to quicken my recovery are welcome. I'll try and get back on more of a routine here at Spot * On, as recently barbecue and golf have occupied a considerable amount of my time. So with that, I bid thee adieu.

Until next time...

44% owned Ubaldo Jimemez (vLAD) and his five quality starts in May.
13% owned Kenshin Kawakami (@SF), fresh off his eight shutout innings against the Blue Jays.

and my favorite spot start...

11% owned Rick Porcello (@KC), who's only given up three ERs in four May starts.

Highlighted him a week ago in the waiver column at the Cafe - can't believe he's still owned in under 50% of leagues!

Cahill vs SEA is interesting, but I like Zimmerman @ NYM. He is due a bit of a luck swing his way.
Nice underneath numbers.

Also Kawakami @ SF is worth a spin.

Actually anybody who can get to the mound without falling down is worth a go vs SF (smiley)

I'll take 6 innings of 2 Run ball all day long. Missed out on tomorrow, but I should be back to pick Friday's Spot * On Starter. Baby steps, baby steps...
