As you may or may not have noticed by now, I am not the worlds most consistent blogger. I don't even consider myself to be a blogger to be quite honest.
But in the past I have tried to link everyone to the different things that i come across on a daily basis, through my "Chatters"
The consistency problem of course, comes down to a matter of time. I am constantly juggling a number of different projects. One week I may be here battling "Fontgate", and another week might see my attention focused on a different league all together. I still visit a large majority of websites and blogs on a daily basis, and I would love to share that with you all on a slightly more consistent basis than I am now.
Hopefully in the near future, that will change.
until then, here is some chatter ..
The Professor
Greg Maddux will be getting some needed rest this week, and will be making his next start Friday in San Francisco rather than Thursday in Arizona. Bud Black explained "Greg has a good history in San Francisco," Maddux's 30 wins against the Giants tie him with Phil Niekro and Don Sutton for the most against the Giants since they set up shop in San Francisco
Los Dodgers remain interested in a starting pitcher and the professor is still on their short list. Torre isn't expecting much from Brad Penny for the rest of the season. Torre hinted that he would like a starting pitcher to be acquired if it'd improve upon the current fifth starter candidates.
The Padres are 3-55 when behind after the 6th inning. And they are 48-76 when trailing after the final out. We get it. The padres are the suck.
More than one way to watch a game
Will Lietch has a piece posted comparing the pricing plans for seats in a New York venue. They are all outrageous but this one really caught my eye.
- Price: $18,630
- Team: New York Mets
- Buys you: Two season tickets in the Loge Level
the USA Today countered with the 10 best seats in all of baseball. Setting you back just nine clams, literally, the Beach washes in at number 10.
- Price: $9.00
- Team: San Diego Padres
- Buys you: "The Beach". A sandy play area behind a see-through section behind the right-center-field fence. "The Beach" is the centerpiece of a 2.7-acre park, the first public park in an outfield since Forbes Field. The park also features a statue of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn.
I am guessing there are no statues in the Loge.
The art of the deal
I sure hope that Washington Nationals General Manager Jim Bowden, never gets a grasp of blogging. It really could be dangerous. Bowden, famous for his late night shenanigans, such as leaving trade offers on an opposing GM's answering machine, at 3 am. This one is not quite to that level, but Bowden really lets the insight roll when it comes to contract negotiations, no? I really love his idea of that final, final, final offer.
we then moved our position, we gave them a final offer at 10:30 p.m. last night, we said here's a final take-it-or-leave-it offer of $3 million, which we later moved to $3.3 million. And then verbally at the last minute, we went to $3.5 million
Ken Rosenthal
Rosenthal believes the Rockies are "almost certain to trade Matt Holliday this off season." ... .... The Atlanta Braves nearly acquired Jason Bay this past July, and they will be in the market for a slugging outfielder this off season. Now I can put two and two together like the best of them, and Holliday to Atlanta seems like a natural to me. Atlanta has the prospects to get something done here.
With the Tampa Rays leading the Rangers 7-3, and two outs in the ninth, Rays Manager Maddon, had Grant Balfour intentionally walk Josh Hamilton to force in a run. 7-4. The next batter went down flailing.
Ballgame.
1. Cubs (2). Since the Brewers climbed into a first-place tie with the Cubbies on July 26, the North Siders are 16-4.
The teams with the two best records in the American League meet in Tampa, as the Angels visit the Rays. Jon Garland faces Andy Sonnanstine. The Rays have won all three games in Tampa Bay, tossing two 2-0 shutouts there.
Melvin Mora: 5-for-6, 4 runs, 2 HR, 6 RBI
Mora now has six straight multi-hit games in a row, and has posted at least two hits in 12 of his last 14. Can't get much hotter than that.
