Adding Teixeira is a brilliant move. With the Vladimir Guerrero window closing quickly, the Halos pitching staff firing on all cylinders, and owners of the best record in the league. It's ring time.
I like that Angels owner Arte Moreno recognizes, that if you've got a real shot at one, you go and get it.. . Don't get me wrong, the Angels paid a fair price for Mark Teixeira, and Tex does represent a considerable upgrade over Casey Kotchman. But Kotchman has a 114 OPS+ in his three seasons, Kotch plays excellent defense, and his game is getting better.
Of course Teixeira is only 28, and is no slouch on defense himself, but maybe simply a two month rental for the Halos. Kotchman was just entering his arbitration years. If Anaheim can resign Teixeira, this is an even better deal though. Can you get better than brilliant?
If not, the Angels still get two draft picks, and have a very capable Kendry Morales ready for first base next season, and another ring.
