Carlos Gomez no longer leading off

Here lies the problem with relying on rookies in fantasy baseball. They are always the rage in fantasy circles every season, but yet they rarely live up to the hype. For every Evan Longoria or Ryan Braun, there are numerous failures, Justin Upton, Homer Bailey and Ryan Shealy, just to name a few off the top of my head, that most team owners simply forget about, no matter how much they overpaid for them at draft.

In my money league, I got burned by two of them season. Justin Upton and now Carlos Gomez.

At the end of April I had a number of offers on the table for Justin Upton's services, all of them sell high type of deals, and I balked at everyone of them figuring he was the real deal. Of course you all know Upton's story from April on, and now he has spent the last month or so sitting on my bench, as I patiently wait for him to break out of his 3 month slump.

Now it is Carlos Gomez's turn. Again, up to about a month ago, I was receiving all kinds of interest from other owners for Gomez. Again all sell high type of deals, just like with Justin Upton, and again, I balked at all of them. grrr

Now Carlos Gomez has a nice little roster spot, on the bench, right next to Justin Upton. Thankfully we play with a deep bench, other wise i would have to cut them.

I certainly can't trade them.

Tuesday, Span's name was atop the lineup card, with Gomez's at the bottom.

Gardenhire hopes the move gives Gomez, who entered the game batting .154 with a .203 on-base percentage in July, a chance to relax. An upbeat Gomez seemed unfazed by the lineup change Tuesday afternoon.

Span had led off for the Twins twice before Tuesday night and said he would approach hitting first in the order the same way he did when he was leading off for Class AAA Rochester.

Span went 2 for 3 Tuesday night, raising his batting average to .342. Gomez doubled in three at-bats and is hitting .248

I'd think most folks would be aware that Gomez's more than decent average was an aberration. The kid has a good set of wheels but just horrible plate discipline.

Speaking of Upton, now is a good time to go after him in a keeper/dynasty.

there you go, kick me while i am down.

I figured Gomez would be good for at least  .270/.275, and 40 SB's.

i was wrong

after both got to a solid start, I traded them on every team I got a legitimate offer, like they were Chipper and Junior, waiting on an injury to end the season, thought for awhile I was wrong on Gomez, but not anymore

"Minnesota Twins center fielder Carlos Gomez was immobilized and taken from the field on a cart after crashing into the padded wall while making a spectacular catch in the first inning of Friday night's game against the Cleveland Indians. After a long run, Gomez jumped as he neared the wall and caught Ben Francisco's drive before slamming into it on his right side. He crumpled on the warning track and, while in obvious pain, shoveled the ball to left fielder Delmon Young. As Gomez writhed around grabbing his lower back, Sizemore tagged up and scored all the way from second base. Gomez remained on the ground for several minutes and was attended to by trainers for both teams before being placed on a backboard and lifted onto a cart. The Twins said the 22-year-old has a lower back injury. He was taken to Lutheran Hospital for further tests, and the team reported he has full movement and feeling in his arms and legs."
