I have no doubts that Ned Colletti is willing to overpay for for a 30 year old short stop with a career 79 OPS+, none. But if he trades Matt Kemp for Jack Wilson straight up, he should be shot.
Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti will be looking for a shortstop among other things before the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline, and the team is willing to adjust its philosophy of keeping their young players off-limits.
"We're more open-minded to who we may have to move," Colletti said.
Asked if he were referring to the young players, Colletti said, "They're not really young kids anymore."
Colletti's comments echoed what owner Frank McCourt told me earlier in the week when asked about the possibility of trading some of the kids. He said the ones they will hold onto are "the ones who are prepared to put in the work, listen to coaches and get better every day." The kids who they would be willing to part with are "the ones that can't do those things."
Update: Apparently the Jack Wilson to LA deal is off.
But, I was looking at this list of teams interested in Marte, and started thinking about Heath Bell. Now I know Bell is not a lefty, but padres GM Kevin Towers should look into moving Heath Bell. Towers could get back quite the haul, not unlike what he got back for Scott Linebrink, I would think.
Heck, given Towers knack for building quality bullpens, Heath Bell won't even be missed
The list could be just as long for Marte, as the Rays, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Florida Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies are seeking left-handed relief. The market certainly has picked up from where it was a month ago when the Pirates were disappointed by the offers.

job is safe, though, but obviously when Pierre comes back the Dodger's are hoping to move one of the other outfielders, although I can't see with all the SSs they've had out there this year and last and failed to hit or got hurt, why they think getting another one might pan out.
I can't see Pierre or Andruw bieng moved. who would take them. All those front office comments point to one person, Matt Kemp.
"I can't see Pierre or Andruw bieng moved. who would take them"
My comment was, "Andruw's job is safe, though, but obviously when Pierre comes back the Dodger's are hoping to move one of the other outfielders."
Since day 1 of this season, Torre or someone has obviously not liked what they had in Kemp, so most likely you are correct, he would be the one to go and a few years down the road, they would wish they hadn't.
oh no, i understand
