Felix Hernandez hits a Granny

I just heard about this $10,000 Blogging Scholarship being offered, and couldn't help but think 'what a cool idea'. What a great way to reward a few of the good guys out there. Apparently it has been going on for a bit, but hey, it is never to late to vote.

So of course I want to put in my official recommendation, and no I am not nominating myself.

Many people here may not know who Dave Cameron is at first glance, unless of course you frequent USS Mariner. I unfortunately do not. I am a padre fan after all.

But I do frequent Fan Graphs regularly, and I know that Dave Cameron is one of the excellent bloggers that they have as part of their team. I have linked to Dave Cameron's work many, many times here at RDB, and I can honestly say he and his brethren have been part of my daily reading for months. I have five MUST reads every day, and Graphs is one of them.

Dave Cameron is one of those good guys.

The work they are doing over at Fan Graphs is insane, and I encourage every baseball fan to bookmark their link. Heck, all the player links you see around here, that is Fan Graphs.

Atlanta Braves General Manager Frank Wren, has confirmed a multi-year offer was made to Tazawa. The Braves expect him to make a decision within a couple of weeks. Wren apparently saw him pitch a few times when he was over in Japan scouting.

American baseball teams continue to search for gold in Japan, and the latest nugget may be a 22-year-old right-hander who has never pitched professionally.
Junichi Tazawa throws a 97 mph fastball and spent last year pitching for the Nippon Oil team in Japan's Industrial League. The Industrial League is not a professional league, but scouts think highly enough of Tazawa that he likely will be under contract with a major league team by the end of the year
