Carpenter has surgery

STLtoday More surgery for Carpenter

"As I've said before, I think we'll key on really where (Carpenter) is at the end of November," Mozeliak said. "What happened today will have no effect on whether he's ready or not. This was something to help him alleviate pain."

"Until Carp proves himself to be healthy and capable of doing what he needs to do within the rotation, you can't figure on his availability," Duncan said. "You may be able to look at him in some kind of relief role, I don't know, but he's got to first prove himself able to handle that (starting) role. I'm speaking solely from a physical standpoint."

"I don't believe today's events make it any more or less likely that Carp will be available to start next season," GM John Mozeliak said during a break in baseball's general managers meetings. "Yes, it's an invasive procedure. But it doesn't change anything. Right now, we don't know."

GM Meetings, Jake Peavy survives day one.

as of November 4th 2008, 1:40pm est, Jacob Peavy is still a padre.

todays Kevin Towers radio show, here

Rosenthal Peavy could be the friars Opening Day starter

The best guess on Jake Peavy is that the Padres eventually will trade him to the Braves, who appear to be the most attractive suitor of Peavy's preferred teams. The Cubs seemingly lack the inventory to make such a deal work, but the Padres might need to turn creative if the Braves balk at their price. Dodgers GM Ned Colletti all but acknowledged that he is unlikely to acquire Peavy from a division rival, and two of Peavy's other preferred clubs — the Cardinals and Astros — are not factors in the discussions.

Peavy has the right to veto any trade, and Padres GM Kevin Towers acknowledged that the pitcher still could be the team's Opening Day starter. Such a scenario, however, is unlikely. The Padres want to purge the remaining four years and $63 million remaining on Peavy's contract.

What team will Jake Peavy play for in 2009?

a poll i hoped i would never see.

Chatter: Mexicali

I haven't been near Mexicali or Yuma lately, but it is right out my back door, a simple three or four hour drive, and next February the 2009 Caribbean Series, the “Serie del Caribe”, will be held in Mexicali.

Why Mexicali I have no idea. I always remember the area having nothing but a bunch of farm land, lots of factories, being insanely hot, and pretty much a dump. Thankfully this is the winter leagues, eh?

If you ever bought something that said made in Mexico, chances are, it came from Mexicali.

The Serie del Caribe teams are typically from Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, and many Major League players are called on to fill the rosters, so the quality of play is high, with national pride often at stake.

Wikipedia - Mexicali Baseball

The Águilas de Mexicali is a Mexican baseball team playing for the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico in Mexicali, Baja California.

The team was founded in October 14, 1976. They have won the championship three times, 1985-1986, 1988-1989, 1998-1999. The team also won the 1986 Caribbean Series, played in Venezuela. Their brightest moment came when they won the 1986 Caribbean Series, only becoming the second Mexican team to take the title

Game of the Day, Thursday 8/28

And I bet you thought the game of the day was going to be Boston vs. New York.

Not on my watch!

Chatter: day late, dollar short.

I didn't kick out a chatter yesterday. It was all drawn up, and I have a number of solid pieces in there, but it is all old news by now. Not only that, there is no chatter. No opinion, nothing. Just a bunch of links to day old news. So I didn't publish it.

So when I sat down this evening to pen out Wednesday's chatter, I figured why write two pieces, when I can just write one. Tomorrows.

I can just use yesterdays links out as a fake chatter. Just links mostly. Besides. I seriously doubt any of the guys i am linking to would be upset about being linked to. Know what I mean.

Chatter: Records are made to be broken

Just a little Chatter today, simply because the last few times out, I sorta went on a bit of a vent, and I don't want this column to be that type of thing. Unless warranted of course. I realize that not a lot of people are actually reading this yet, but one day when I am King of California, my daily Chatter will be forced reading. Much in the way Los Dodger fans must read Bill Plaschke.

Torture?

call it what you will ..

Chatter: will work for food

It's tough times financially for a lot of folks, not just in the states, but world wide. Lots of people are looking for work, or will be soon. I always say it is never too early to get a leg up on the competition, ya know. See what is out there type of thing. Sometimes the grass is truly greener on the other side.
