Carpenter has surgery

STLtoday More surgery for Carpenter

"As I've said before, I think we'll key on really where (Carpenter) is at the end of November," Mozeliak said. "What happened today will have no effect on whether he's ready or not. This was something to help him alleviate pain."

"Until Carp proves himself to be healthy and capable of doing what he needs to do within the rotation, you can't figure on his availability," Duncan said. "You may be able to look at him in some kind of relief role, I don't know, but he's got to first prove himself able to handle that (starting) role. I'm speaking solely from a physical standpoint."

"I don't believe today's events make it any more or less likely that Carp will be available to start next season," GM John Mozeliak said during a break in baseball's general managers meetings. "Yes, it's an invasive procedure. But it doesn't change anything. Right now, we don't know."

Pittman placed on injured reserve

I just dropped Selvin Young in two leagues. grrr

John Halpin's Fantasy Sports Blog Fantasy Football Morning Update: Browns switch to Quinn

The Broncos have lost every single one of their running backs for the season, and brought Terrell Davis out of retirement. OK, maybe it only seems that way. In reality, Michael Pittman and Andre Hall were placed on injured reserve, so they're done. Selvin Young is still nursing a groin injury, but he might be back Thursday against the Browns. By process of elimination if nothing else, rookie Ryan Torain is going to get plenty of work. He had three carries for a yard in Week 9, and the Rocky Mountain News said that Fantasy Hater Shanahan was hesitant to play Torain because he had little pass blocking experience. That Bronco offense sure went down the tubes, didn't it?

Orton could miss a month

Not a good year for quarterbacks ..

FOX Sports Blogs John Halpin's Fantasy Sports Blog

Just when he had turned into a solid fantasy starter, Bears QB Kyle Orton might miss a month due to the high ankle sprain he suffered Sunday against the Lions. Orton will have an MRI today, and in his absence the Bears will turn to the Jekyll-and-Hyde Rex Grossman, who was shaky in relief of Orton on Sunday. Up next for King Rex: The Titans at home, followed by the Packers at Lambeau. Uh-oh.

Baron Davis hurt again

ouch

Davis was my first round pick, pick 14 in H2H Hoops.

I dont' need this

Nick Johnson, injuries may linger

May linger for nine years? Wow! And soon to be ten years? Amazing ...

It's at about that point right there, I'd honestly start thinking about doing something else for a living. Something safe.

Hope you had a backup

Just a partial listing of the players that went down in week one. Its safe to say the Quarterback position just became a little thinner.

Hope you had a backup.

Longoria activated, but won't be hitting

I hate it when this happens, when MLB teams aren't really concerned with the disabled list. Since rosters are expanded in September for the playoff push, and to give minor leaguers a "look", the disabled list can become pretty much useless for fantasy purposes, and it could really screw you over for a roster spot or two.

Gregg not giving up on season

its probably okay to let Kevin Gregg go now. Even if Gregg somehow makes it back with say a week and a half to go, that roster spot will be better served for something else down the stretch. Unless of course you totally desperate for saves, then maybe ..  other wise, I say cut the cord.

Duchscherer shut down for the season

Why do all these baseball doctors live in the south?

A couple of weeks back, Josh Beckett went to visit Dr Andrews in Alabama. There is no baseball in Alabama, or Tennessee for that matter. Some minor league teams, i guess, but obviously nothing professional. How odd. And it is not like they are centrally located or anything. Maybe Tennessee, but Alabama?

Crede could be lost for the season

The White Sox will use Uribe the rest of the season at third, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to add Josh Fields to your watch list, and check the game logs daily just in case Fields strings together some AB's, and gets hot. Ozzie needs all the offense he can get. Which is really sad to say with the likes of Paul Konerko, Jim Thome and Nick Swisher already on the roster. <!--break-->

Daily Herald | Crede could be lost for the season

"I'm not going to count (on) Crede for a long time," Guillen said. "He's going to have a second opinion on his back. I don't expect him to be back anytime soon. I have be honest with you because I'm tired of people asking me the same question about Joe. Joe is not going to be with us, and I don't expect him to be back in the season."

Crede, who had back surgery in June of 2007, batted just .174 (4-for-23) after coming off the DL in late August.

"I tip my hat to Joe Crede," Guillen said. "He was playing with a lot of pain and we could see him playing with pain. We could see the way he was moving. He couldn't take anymore. He did everything in his power to help this ballclub, and unfortunately that happened."
