its all Baltimore?

The Eastern Division was the only basketball finals to have a true One and Two seed competing against each other. Now deciding which team was the One and which team was the Two was pretty difficult to decipher as they were only separated by a half point at the end of the season. Just the week before, the standings were flip flopped. It was that close.

Which team was the best? It was impossible to quantify, so it was fitting that they met up in the finals.

Congrats to David and his Carlsbad Ranunculus for securing his first ever H2Hoops West title. As mentioned here a few times over the last month or two, Carlsbad went the whole season without losing a week. Not one defeat. Yeah he has a few ties*, but he never lost.

David also won the H2H Super Bowl title a few months back.

Quite a year for David.

If you can believe it, a Brit has the H2H Hoops title too.

Congrats to Chris and his Norwich Apocalypse for securing the first ever Head to Head Hoops title.

They earned it too. His crew won their league last season, and then they stepped up this year and rode a well deserved two seed into the playoffs.

They won their 2010 semifinal 7-3, while overcome a flurry of moves by his opponent (15 in total). His reward for doing so was to face the number one team in the league this year, the Enfield Lips, or the hottest team in the post season, Olimpia Milano.

H2Hoops - West Semifinals

Aah tie breakers. I have a love/hate relationship with tie breakers. Of course my feelings on the subject probably have a little something to do with how I fare in each situation, but that's to be expected, right? :)

First lets take a look at Yahoo's tie break system for the post season as they revamped it this past season for the better IMO. It is really simple too.

In the event that a playoff game ends in a tie, the deadlock is broken using the following system:

  1. Winning percentage against this opponent during the regular season.
  2. Playoff seed

In our first quarterfinal match-up, wrveres's "Olimpia Milano" team led wire to wire over Old Style's "Will County Throwbacks". It was a fairly close match-up early on, but as the week wore on, it was clear who the better team was. Once the weekend cam around both team managers were just going through the motions as the game was basically decided.

The second match-up was decided way back in week 11 if you can believe it This quarterfinal match-up saw the "Slam and Jam Bandits" and the "Winners" go back and forth all week long, and with the match-up neck and neck at the end of the week, we had to take it to the first tie breaker, "Winning percentage against this opponent during the regular season". In their only match-up, yes, way back on week 11, the Bandits slid past the Winners 6-4, and with that .. they'll advance to the Semifinals.

Good luck to all. The next two match-ups are against two of the top teams in the whole series. They are going to need it.

Head 2 Head Hoops - Semifinals

We had two big upsets in the Championship bracket this past week. Both of the three and four seeds were sent home, as Olimpia Milano and Down Under Hoops advanced to the semifinals. Both under drastically different circumstances.

In the first quarterfinal, the "East Moline Edge" forgot to set their lineup on Tuesday, and the tone was set for the rest of the week. They never recovered from the mismanagement, and they went on to lose the week 1-8. Looking back at that Tuesday game in question, the Edge lost out on 3 threes, 47 points, 5 OREB's, 25 DREB, 12 Assists, and 4 steals. Adding in those totals makes still makes this a 3-7 defeat for East Moline.

The second quarterfinal was decided by a tie breaker again. Scoots Down Under Crew swept the season series against the Neenah Mill Rats, 6-4, 6-4, and in doing so, forced the Millrats to have to win the week outright. The made one heck of an effort too pulling out defensive rebounds on the final Sunday, but in the end they fell short of the goal, winning out right.
