H2HWS AUS: week 3
So week 3 saw us finally have a few big victories with the KedronScoots (11-1-0) and the Bald Hillbillies (10-1-1) both racking up double digit victories. JT Capers took the biggest hit dropping from 2nd all the way to 10th, while the Hillbilles were below .500 before finishing the week in 4th and just 3 games out of 1st place.
3 weeks in and the InVaders, Heroes & the BullyBoys are still searching for that first W, while the Sluggers (3 wins) & the Rookies (2 wins, 1 tie) are the only unbeaten sides.
Still 14 active managers in the AUS division, and some more than others with 5 teams already at 10+ moves for the year.

Week 2 has come and gone and just 7 games seperate 1 through 11... which is about what you'd expect early in the season.

Well after 8 days of baseball, we are off and running. No one got destroyed - though at one point it looked like the RedHill_Rookies would put together an 11 or even 12 point week, they eventually claimed a 7-4 victory.
I'm proud to say I currently sit atop the ladder (along with Kogarah K's) with a solid 9-3 victory. My offense certainly wasn't amazing this week (.250 avg and .704 ops) - but they got the job done.
Also, 1 week in and we still have 14 active managers - always a nice thing to see.
So with that, here is the ladder.

OK - so I have to admit my plan this year was pretty simple... far more conventional and far less interesting. In fact - some would argue i'm sure that what I did wasn't even a strategy - it was just common sense.
Regardless, onwards and upwards - I punted saves, and drafted 3 holds guys (Bard, Gregerson, Howell) with my final 3 picks & I have 6 starters, one of which is RP eligible (Liriano).

So after the failed attempt at "stealing" the pitching categories in 2008 (see my blog during last year, and the speed at which I stopped reporting on the strategy), i'm back with a new plan... This one is probably not far from the general tactic that most apply, but I still think there's enough here to make a note of it.
I'm not saying I believe 100% in the moneyball theory, but I do believe in the theory of exploiting deficiencies among the rest of the crowd.

Well as the playoffs have come to an end, here are the final standings for season 2009... congrats to the NKOTB Redhill Rookies for finishing 4th after the regular season, and taking down a convincing 10-2 victory in the 1st place playoff.
Special mention to our man Psydney Psychos who had another regular season 1st place (2nd in 3 years, and 4th top 2 finish in 5 years). But alas, he couldn't take home the biscuits this season, being eliminated by the eventual champ in the semi-final week. Still he'll always have that 2008 title.

After 10 weeks we still have the reigning champ leading the pack and we have just 10 games seperating 4th and 12th. Should be a very interesting second half.

Well what can I say? For those of you that attend the site regularly you can probably tell from the way i haven't posted since week 1 that my grand plan has been somewhat of an epic failure....
I guess the optimist will look at the 1 win and 1 draw i have to go with my 6 losses. But I see the losses and feel nothing but frustrated.

So after a month, we have the defending champ setting the pace, and a few teams are already looking down the barrel of a long season....

OK so first of all - the result, a 5-6 loss. Was it disappointing? Yes. Did my starting pitchers let me down? Yes. But am I excited about the next 21 weeks? ABOLUTELY.

So i'm not gonna lie - never done one of these blogs - but thought this year on top of posting the H2H AUS League results each week i'd start a little blog to do with my team for 2009..... why should you care? Well if you read on, you'll see what the fuss is about (I hope).....

Congrats to those boys who made the playoffs - maybe another tactic will work better next year for those who missed out...

WELL HERE WE ARE WITH JUST THE 2 WEEKS LEFT TO GO.... YOU WOULD HAVE TO THINK WE HAVE OURSELVES A GUARANTEED TOP 4, AND JUST THE 2 FINAL SPOTS TO BE DECIDED, LIKELY BETWEEN 3 AND POSSIBLY 4 TEAMS... AND ANOTHER 4 TEAMS WITHIN 12.5 GAMES OF 6 WONDERING IF THEY CAN GO SOMETHING LIKE 20-4-0 OVER THE NEXT 14 DAYS AND PULL OFF SOMETHING MAGICAL... IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THE MAXIMUM MOVES LIMIT COMES INTO PLAY OVER THE NEXT MONTH OR SO.

So as we head down the final straight.... i still am not sure where the final 6 players will come from.... we have ourselves a clear top 3, but with just 60 percentage points separating teams 5 - 12, anything could come from the last 5 weeks... hope everyone else is enjoying their leagues as much as we are..... well those of us still looking after our teams anyway...

Week 14 has come and gone..well and truly into the back end of the regular season... and still i sit way too far back to really like my chances of making the playoffs... sitting 31.5 games back from our leader - the pseudo Aussie "San Diego Snoop Dogs" is not really of great interest to myself or to the main pack... the top 3 teams sit within 5 games of each other and 6 games ahead of 4th - they appear safe. However, 6th place i can still see just 17 games ahead of me... way back in 15th of 18 teams...oh the pain..
anyway - here are the standings....

Well nearly half way through the season now... we have a 2 way tie at the top, and the top 5 teams separated by just 6.5 games.. with those teams having a considerable gap (8 games) to the rest of the pack, and then teams 6 to 18 separated by just the 11.5 games... as we head towards the back end of the season, it may seem unlikely but everyone still has a shot to make that top 6 and give themselves a shot at the title... time will tell...

well a 3 way tie after 6 weeks at the top, and some of the usual contenders are right there...
snoop dogs is the only undefeated team, and everyone has tasted victory at least once....

Well now three weeks into the league, and we are starting to see some consistent winners, and some consistent losers. Currently we have 3 remaining undefeated teams, although one of those by virtue of two draws and just the solitary win. While we have 4 teams (yours truly included) without a victorious week... and the rest in between.
